Meet Pocket

First off, I didn't realize that I hadn't posted since NOVEMBER!!

And now for the main reason for this post. As of February, we have a new member to our kitty family. We had absolutely no intentions of getting another cat. I just happened to be browsing Petfinder, and came across an absolutely gorgeous Russian Blue/Tortie mix. I inquired about her, and found that she was already adopted...but there was another similar kitten. We decided to go meet with the shelter director and the kitten at an adoption event. We knew that another cat probably wasn't the way to go, but didn't have the heart to not go and meet the kitten. When we got to the adoption event, I saw tons of cats, but not the one we were going to meet. And then I spotted her - cowering in a carrier in the corner. She was so scared of the barking dogs that they had to "hide" her so she couldn't see any dogs. We talked to the shelter director, asked tons of questions, and talked about her background. Her start in life wasn't great. As a small kitten, she was with a family that had ferrets, and the ferrets tortured her. Either the people her surrendered her or had her taken away, I'm not sure. Keep in mind, that in February, Pocket was only six months old. She had already been through so much. Pocket was a shy, growly little thing. I held her, and she cowered in my arms, until a dog barked, and then she scrambled down to her carrier. I looked at my husband, and said words I never thought I'd utter: "I don't think it's a good idea." Too late. He was sold. Before I knew what was happening, he said we'd take her. He couldn't bear the thought of leaving her after all she had been through. We got all the paperwork in order, packed her in the carrier, and headed on our way.

Once we got Pocket in the car, she was a completely different kitten. She flopped around in the carrier, sticking her paws out, and was completely charming.

There is more to come on Pocket. She has such a huge personality.

  1. Ooh, another kitty! Exciting! It sounds like Pocket had a pretty rough start in life, but things are sure looking up for her now!
